Love and the wound

I didn’t know that even with so many words, I would lose my voice
how did I become so silent when loving you was a choice?
I thought you’d help me heal, but the wound was so deep
that when I opened myself to you, I drowned deeper in this sea
I didn’t know that loving you this much would tear me apart
It’s the fact that you turned your head when I was pouring out my heart
the tears were spilling down my cheeks, and I know the words weren’t making sense
if you didn’t want to care, then why did you make me lower my fence?
I thought you would change, so I was praying for us every day
I gave you everything I had, yet you threw it all away
tell me, how do I pull myself through
when the only one I saw was you
honest love is supposed to make you rise
but when did I hurt so badly that I started falling from the sky
I crashed so hard that I thought this would be the end to my test
but I didn’t know I would be the one to yank my heart out of my chest
this wasn’t supposed to be a battle, yet I think you win
you’ve damaged me so much that the hurt is pouring from my skin
sadly, I still love you, and I don’t know what to do
you could repeat the cycle again and again, and I would still come back to you.

Love not only makes you blind. It makes you deaf and mute as well. Why is it that we fall so badly in love that it becomes hard for us to stand? Is it really love, or is it longing, acceptance, or obsession? How can we spot the difference?

Often, we run back to the same people that hurt us, maybe because the salve we need lies in their apology. But that apology never comes, and the wound becomes deeper and deeper, until it becomes a void that swallows everything.

Nowadays, love is used as an adjective, not a verb. People don’t love. They don’t know how to.
